Xiaoming Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Zhejiang University (ZJU). He obtained his PhD from the University of Hong Kong. His research centers on the origins of state capacity, bureaucracy, and historical political economy. His articles have appeared in the Social Forces, American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Comparative Economics, and Journal of Chinese Governance, among others. He is a recipient of multiple research awards, including Honorable Mention for the Charles Tilly Best Article Award in Comparative and Historical Sociology given by the American Sociological Association (ASA) and the 8th Narada (Nandu) Quantitative History Research Best Paper Awards given by the Centre for Quantitative History.
